2006 - Fact Sheet

What are the Internet Movie Awards?
The Internet Movie Awards permits Internet voters to choose which films, filmmakers, and performers were their favorite over the past year. Nominations in the 12 categories were decided by the Internet Entertainment Writers Association (IEWA), comprised of journalists who write on a broad spectrum of entertainment topics and publish their work on the world wide web. Once nominations are announced, voting is then opened to the public. The annual awards were founded in August of 1999.

What is the nomination/voting process?
In mid-January, members of the Internet Entertainment Writers Association were asked for nominations in 12 categories, from films that opened domestically in the United States in 2005.

From the lists of nominations, the top vote getters were placed on the ballots and announced publicly; voting is now open to the public until March 31, 2007.
